Indonesia meets Korea in the Thomas Cup quarter-finals

Chengdu, Beritasatu.com – Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo's men's singles made Indonesia win 4-1 over India in the 2024 Thomas Cup group C qualifying round at the Chengdu Hi Tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium, Chengdu, China, Wednesday (1/5/2024). Indonesia is confirmed to be the winner of Group C and will meet South Korea in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Thomas Cup.

The Papuan-born player won over Indian men's singles Srikanth Kidambi in a tight rubber game 19-21, 24-22, 21-14 in 71 minutes.

“Thank God we were able to finish the match well without injury. “First of all, Srikanth was very strong when he competed today,” said Chico.

Chico actually held dominance first. However, at critical moments, Chico could not take advantage of the opportunities that existed and the advantage went to Kidambi by winning the first game with a score of 21-19.

“He played very well, especially in the first and second games. There I was quite surprised by his strokes, and his balls too. “Maybe because this is the first meeting too,” he said.

Furthermore, in the second game, Chico tried not to appear in a rush to quickly get points like in the previous game.

Even though Kidambi was still able to balance the game, Chico's strategy proved to be able to prevent the opponent from winning in two straight games.

Chico finally forced the rubber game and tried to maintain his dominance and confidence in order to win in the deciding match.
