Injured, Zohri Withdraws from 100 Meter Run Final

National track athlete Lalu Muhammad Zohri was forced to withdraw from the men’s 100 meter final at the 2023 SEA Games Cambodia due to injury.

Zohri, who was supposed to appear in the race at the Morodok Techo National Stadium, Phnom Penh, Friday (12/5/2023) at 16:50 WIB, withdrew due to his injury.

He suffered an injury while warming up before appearing in the 200 meter number which was his opening number at the 2023 SEA Games, Monday (8/5/2023).

However, the athlete from West Nusa Tenggara continued to appear in the men’s 4×100 meter relay, Wednesday (10/5/2023).

As a result, Zohri together with Bayu Kertanegara, Wahyu Setiawan, and Sudirman Hadi won the gold medal after recording a time of 39.11 seconds.

This achievement brought Zohri and his friends to re-write their names in history. This is because the last gold medal in the men’s 4×100 meter athletics relay was won by the Indonesian team at the 2011 SEA Games in Jakarta-Palembang.

Zohri appeared in the men’s 100 meter qualifying session this Friday morning. The athlete who was born on July 1, 2000 managed to occupy fourth place when competing in heat 2 by recording a time of 10.56 seconds. The result brought him through to the finals

“Quadriceps or a pulled quadriceps muscle. Just now, when he was running in the 100 meter heat, he was hit again, pulled again,” said Head Men’s Sprint Coach Eni Nuraeni.

“Actually, Zohri also entered the final. But because we’re afraid the injury will get worse, so it’s better not to take part later in the final. Because in a few months there will be the Asian Games, I’m afraid the recovery will take longer,” Eni added.

Eni explained Lalu Zohri’s condition was immediately handled by two PB PASI doctors who were part of the contingent.
