Uzbekistan almost equalized six minutes later after being awarded a penalty. Unfortunately, Umarali Rakhmonaliev's shot towards the right side of the Japanese goal was blocked by goalkeeper Leo Kokubo.

Japan repeated their success in 2016, while Uzbekistan failed to win a second title after 2018.

Previously, the Uzbekistan U-23 national team was without three important pillars, Abdukodir Khusanov, Hojimat Erkinov, and Abbosbek Fayzullaev.

The three players who had careers abroad have returned to their respective clubs. Khusanov returned to French club RC Lens, Erkinov to United Arab Emirates club Al-Wahda FC, and Fayzullaev to Russian club CSKA Moscow.
