Indonesia Faces “Dark Horse” Taiwan in the Thomas Cup Semifinals

Chengdu, Beritasatu.com – Indonesia will face a team nicknamed Taiwan's “dark horse” in the Thomas Cup semifinals, Saturday (4/5/2024).

Regarding the dark horse, Taiwan's mainstay, Chou Tien Chen, admitted that he did not have his own opinion, and would only try to play well again in the next top four match.

“We'll see if we can become a 'dark horse' like what people say,” said Chou.

The Thomas Cup semifinal match between Taiwan and Indonesia is scheduled for tomorrow at 16.00 WIB.

Men's singles Chou Tien Chen said that courage and a sense of never giving up were the keys in paving Taiwan's path to the semifinals of the 2024 Thomas Cup. Chou won a fierce match over Denmark's top player and men's singles world number one Viktor Axelsen through a tight rubber game 21-19, 14 -21, 21-19 in the quarter-finals held at Chengdu Hi Tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium, Chengdu, China, Friday (3/5/2024).

“I know that I may not play as well as Axelsen, he is a great player. However, I tried my best to return all the shots, rally and get point by point,” said Chou.

Furthermore, Chou admitted that he did not have any expectations when facing the gold medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

He is just trying to continue to grow his confidence on the field, that he can provide fierce resistance.

“I didn't expect anything. I just give my best. In my opinion, the most important thing when competing is to have high fighting power. “That's something I build on, do my best and focus on,” said the 34-year-old player.

In the quarter-finals, Taiwan won dramatically 3-1 over Denmark, with the other two wins achieved by the men's doubles pairs Lee Yang/Wang Chi Lin and Lee Jhe Huei/Yang Po Hsuan.
