Jokowi Inaugurates Construction of Karanganyar Paralympic Training Center

Karanganyar, Beritasatu.com – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the development of Karanganyar Paralympic Training Center in the Delingan area, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, Friday (8/3/2024). In his remarks, Jokowi expressed his belief that the facilities on the slopes of Mount Lawu are not only comfortable for athletes but also able to boost achievements on the international stage.

“The idea to build a training center for Paralympic athletes has actually been around for a long time. Thank God, we can execute it this year,” said Jokowi.

The project area of ​​8 hectares is considered sufficient for construction training center with international standard facilities. The development, funded by the APBN amounting to IDR 409 billion, is targeted for completion in September 2024.

The facilities that will be available in it include a sports hall, dormitory, athletic field, swimming pool recovery, to multifunctional rooms. According to Jokowi, training places for paralympic athletes like Karanganyar only exist in South Korea and Indonesia.

“There is an apartment dormitory with two five-story towers, a capacity of 188 rooms, a soccer field, a 400 meter athletics track, eight 100 meter running tracks, a track for long jump, shot put and high jump,” he added.

President Jokowi emphasized that the construction location on the slopes of Mount Lawu is very appropriate. He hopes that this facility can be utilized as well as possible to motivate paralympic athletes to achieve brilliant achievements.

Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo, who also accompanied Jokowi, added that the construction of the Karanganyar Paralympic Training Center would be the pride of the Indonesian nation in the eyes of the world. The proud achievements of the Red and White Team in the international arena have also become an encouragement for the government to build adequate facilities.

“Our team needs more training. We are collaborating with the NPC and related institutions to support the athletes' needs towards victory. Thank you to Pak Jokowi and the Minister of PUPR who have ensured that every corner is built as well as possible,” he said.

According to the Minister of Youth and Sports, in the future the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of PUPR need to build a sports science laboratory to provide more effective training for athletes. The Karanganyar Paralympic Training Center is also considered a symbol of the government's struggle to improve the status of people with disabilities. Through their achievements, it is hoped that they will be able to inspire the younger generation to be creative and empowered.
