Maintaining the Golden Tradition of Badminton at the 2024 Paris Olympics, These are PBSI's 3 Mainstay Numbers

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) revealed the three numbers that are expected to win medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. PBSI Secretary General, Muhammad Fadil Imran, explained the three numbers, namely men's singles, men's doubles and women's doubles.

“We are prioritizing these three numbers to get medals,” said Fadil after the member meeting and extraordinary congress of the 2024 Indonesian Olympic Committee in Jakarta, Friday (8/3/2024).

For men's singles, Anthony Ginting and Jonathan Christie are relied on to continue the golden tradition of Indonesian badminton at the Olympics. Meanwhile in the men's doubles, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri are Indonesia's mainstays.

For the women's doubles, Apriyani Rahayu, who previously won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with Greysia Polii, is now paired with Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and has the potential to qualify.

Meanwhile, it is hoped that the other numbers will qualify the athletes for the four-yearly event. For example, the mixed doubles Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningryas Mentari are currently in 13th qualifying position.

Fadil Imran expressed his hope that athletes who are in a safe position can maintain their best performance and ensure tickets to the Olympics.

“We must achieve the target by the deadline, and playing with enjoyment is the main key. Athletes must enjoy playing on the field to be able to bring out their best abilities,” he concluded.

It is known that since competing at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Indonesia has almost always won gold medals at this oldest sporting event. The golden tradition was interrupted at the 2012 London Olympics, when Indonesia failed to bring home a single medal from badminton.
