Messi Returns to Training When His Colleagues Enjoy the Holidays

– Lionel Messi has returned to training with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) sooner than expected after receiving a suspension from the club for traveling without permission to Saudi Arabia.

The Argentina international departed for the Middle East earlier this week to fulfill his commercial commitments as the country’s tourism ambassador.

One day before Messi’s flight, PSG suffered a shock 1-3 defeat at home to Lorient in Ligue 1.

Coach Christophe Galtier then canceled their usual scheduled day off on Monday. Messi, who thought he had a holiday, was already on his way to Saudi Arabia when the PSG squad arrived at Camp des Loges for training.

Messi was not allowed to train with the squad last week, although he posted a public apology to the club and his team-mates on social media.

As a result, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was absent when PSG beat Troyes 3-1 at Troyes on Sunday (7/5/2023).

On Monday morning, PSG announced that the former Barcelona man had returned to training at the Camp des Loges earlier than expected. On this occasion, Messi only did individual training while the rest of the team enjoyed the day off.

It remains to be seen whether Messi will be allowed to rejoin the rest of Galtier’s squad for training this weekend ahead of their final Ligue 1 home game at Ajaccio on Saturday.

If PSG maintains their two-week match ban, Messi may not return until the trip to Auxerre on May 21. PSG will end this season by facing Strasbourg and Clermont on May 27 and June 3.
