end of Windows 8.1 – People who are still using Windows 8.1 will be warned from next month that Microsoft will stop supporting the operating system from January 10, 2023, writes ZDNet.

The notifications that Windows 8.1 users get are similar to those of Windows 7. Microsoft stopped doing that in 2020. People can choose to receive the notifications again at a later time, but can also just click them away.

It is not known how many people are still using Windows 8.1. That operating system succeeded the poorly received Windows 8 in 2013. Windows 8 focused on touch control and pulled the Start button from the menu.

After many complaints from users, those innovations were largely reversed in Windows 8.1.

After January 10, 2023, there will also be no more renewal for security updates of Windows 8.1. Microsoft recommends people switch to Windows 11. Windows 10 is also another option. That software will be supported until October 14, 2025.
