One more step, Roberto Firmino joins Al-Ahli
– Roberto Firmino is reported to be signing a contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli soon.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Firmino has decided to take advantage of the opportunity presented to him at Al-Ahli, who has recently returned to the top flight.
Romano said that Firmino had reached a verbal agreement with the second division champions last season and will now undergo a medical to finalize his move.
The former Hoffenheim player is ready to sign a three-year contract at Al-Ahli. If all is completed, the Brazilian player will join former Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy.
Earlier this week, the Senegal international was confirmed to be the club’s number one player, following N’Golo Kante to Al-Ittihad and Kalidou Koulibaly to Al-Hilal.
As is well known, Firmino has previously decided to end his eight years with Liverpool.
Firmino chose to take on a new challenge rather than extend his stay at Anfield which has seen him go through 362 appearances and 111 goals. Since his decision to leave Anfield was taken, a number of top clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly interested in him.
Getting a player of the 31-year-old’s quality on a free transfer would be a major coup.
However, in recent days, it has emerged that the versatile forward has been engaged in serious talks to become the latest player to make the move to the Saudi Pro League.
The Public Investment Fund (PIF) has a 75% stake in the four clubs, giving them the power to attract more high-profile names to the Middle East.
