PSM Makassar Releases New Jersey with Wave Philosophy

The Indonesian League 1 Champion, PSM Makassar, released a new jersey that will be used in the 2023/2024 season. They carry the philosophy of waves and coppo bolas.

The identity of the jersey was revealed via PSM Makassar’s official YouTube account today, Friday (30/6/2023).

It can be seen that the red color as the home jersey is maintained, while white is the away jersey color. The dimensions of the waves and the coppo of the ball can be seen in the jerseys of Wiljan Pluim and his colleagues.

Sulaiman Karim, Media Officer of PSM Makassar, through his release, revealed that the jersey carries the concept “PSM is Home, Let’s Fight for it!” “The newest jersey for the Ramang Troops this season carries the philosophy of waves and coppo balls,” he said.

The wave-like pattern can be seen on the knit jersey. This wave philosophy represents the toughness and perseverance of the Bugis Makassar people who never give up, for the sake of the phinisi symbol on their chest.

“This means PSM, players, supporters and management are ready to work together to navigate the 2023/2024 season,” he added.

Meanwhile, the triangular coppo bola pattern is placed on the sleeves of the jersey. The inspiration for this design comes from the roof of a traditional Bugis Makassar house which has five lines, which symbolize the house of a noble or king.

“That is, PSM Makassar is the king in Indonesian football competition,” he said.

Coppo bola or the roof of a house also has a deep meaning for the people of South Sulawesi. The soul of the nomads possessed by the Makassar Bugis never makes them forget their hometown.

“This character is always seen when PSM Makassar competes anywhere, there is always support from PSM Makassar supporters,” he added.
