Opponent Reads Game, Rehan/Lisa Falls in Top 32 of French Open

Playing at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena, Paris, France, Rehan/Lisa surrendered to second seed Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino. They fell after playing three games and surrendered with scores of 21-15, 15-21 and 14-21. Rehan/Lisa failed to win tickets to the top 16 after playing 54 minutes.

This is a bad record for Rehan/Naufal against the Japanese doubles. They have met Watanabe/Higashino three times and always lost. The two previous defeats occurred in the top 32 of the 2022 Badminton Asia Championships and the top 16 of the 2023 BWF World Championships.

“In the first game we immediately applied the pattern we had prepared. Playing fast and pressing, it makes the opponent quite surprised. In the second and third games they were able to read the pattern and we came under pressure again. “I was in a hurry and ended up making a lot of my own mistakes,” said Rehan.

However, he admitted that he and Lisa learned from the Japanese couple's game. “We learned how opponents can get out of pressure like that. “How can those who don't feel comfortable playing at the start turn things around,” said the Bekasi-born player.
