Patrick Vieira appointed as coach of Ligue 1 club Strasbourg

– French club Racing Strasbourg appointed Patrick Vieira as their new coach on a three-year contract. The former France international previously coached Premier League side Crystal Palace from 2021 to this year.

The 47-year-old coach guided Palace to a 12th place finish and the FA Cup semi-finals in his first season in charge. But Vieira was sacked in mid-March following a 1-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion that left the south London club three points above the relegation zone.

“Patrick’s arrival will allow us to make further progress and take a step forward. He fits the profile we are looking for a coach with international experience, and also has good knowledge of Ligue 1 and its young players,” said Strasbourg president Marc Keller. .

In his career as a player, Vieira won the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Cup. He has more than 100 caps for his country by scoring six goals.

At club level, he helped Arsenal to three Premier League titles, and won Serie A four times – with AC Milan in 1995-96 and with Inter Milan for three successive seasons from 2006-07.

The French coach began his coaching career with Manchester City’s Under-23 team in 2013-2015, before taking over as coach at New York City FC and continuing with a 2-1/2 year stint at Ligue 1 club Nice.
