PayPal got case against Apple,

PayPal has helped get the case against Apple over NFC chips rolling. The company has filed informal complaints with the European Commission, writes news agency Bloomberg Tuesday on the basis of anonymous sources.

On Monday, it became clear that Apple may receive a billion-dollar fine for violating European competition rules. According to the European Commission, the tech giant is abusing its power by reserving a chip, which makes contactless payment with iPhones and iPads easier, to its own payment software.

With the so-called NFC chip, two devices can communicate with each other wirelessly and at a short distance. The chips can only be used by Apple. With this, Apple excludes other payment companies, according to the European Commission.

According to the anonymous sources, PayPal has submitted several informal complaints to the European Commission. The payment service offers a so-called tap to pay function for Android and wants to offer this possibility on iPhones as well.

Partly due to the complaints of PayPal, the case would have gotten rolling. Several other companies are also said to have complained to the European Commission.

PayPal has not responded to Bloomberg’s news. Apple previously said that Apple Pay competitors are still popular on iPhones, even without a tap to pay feature. The tech giant also reported that it is already working with 2,500 banks in Europe.
