Pocketing IDR 2 trillion per year, Ronaldo overtakes Messi to become the world’s highest-earning athlete

– Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo overtakes Lionel Messi to become the highest-earning athlete in the world by 2023.

Ronaldo’s annual gross from club Al Nassr has helped him achieve this feat for the third time in his historic career.

The former Manchester United player topped the list, and earned the Guinness world record for the highest annual earnings as athlete of the year.

According to Guinness World Records, Ronaldo earned around US$136 million or around Rp.2 trillion in the last 12 months until May 1, 2023. This amount consists of US$46 million on the field and US$90 million off the field.

The Portuguese player moved to the Saudi Arabian professional league in December last year on a 2.5-year contract and reportedly earns around US$75 million a year.

In addition, it is reported that the former Real Madrid and Juventus player’s income is greater off the field than on the field. Ronaldo not only has a lifetime contract with Nike, but also makes a fortune through CR7 branded merchandise.

All of the top three highest earning athletes in 2022-23 are footballers. As well as Ronaldo, Messi and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé are also on the list.

Messi, who is in second place, has a total income of US $ 130 million or around IDR 1.9 trillion which is divided equally on and off the field.
