PSM Makassar lost, PSM supporters clashed at Gelora BJ Habibie Stadium
– The 2023 League 1 match between the defending champion and host PSM Makassar hosted Dewa United at the BJ Habibie Stadium, Parepare City, South Sulawesi, Saturday (8/7/2023) was marred by chaos.
Chaos broke out between fellow PSM Fans supporters who occupied the South stand during the first half break. The group of supporters, identified by their all-black clothes, seemed to be chasing each other and hitting each other until they threw them at each other.
Luckily, the commotion did not last long and spread to other stands and inside the stadium because security officers quickly anticipated it. It seems that some of the supporters who were involved in the riot immediately left the stadium and the match was resumed.
During the riots, four people suffered head injuries that oozed fresh blood. They were then rushed to an ambulance outside the stadium for treatment. Although the victims admitted that they were hit by stone and iron fragments, the overall condition of the victims was not too severe and they were allowed to be treated as outpatients.
“Four people were all injured in the head,” said Andreas, a health worker.
Apart from the fans, one member of the police was also injured when breaking up the rioting and has received medical treatment.
“One of our personnel was also injured,” said Parepare Police Chief AKBP Andiko Wicaksono who was met after the game.
Andiko said that during the riots, his party arrested 4 suspected perpetrators of the riots who are currently being investigated at the Parepare Police Headquarters and are facing criminal penalties.
“We have secured four people who are strongly suspected of being the perpetrators. It is clear that this resulted in injuries,” he said.
As for the trigger for the riots, Andiko said that based on the results of the interim examination, this was due to a prolonged internal conflict. Even so, his party will still conduct an investigation to explore the exact motive for the riot.
“Allegedly because of revenge because there is a conflict,” he said.
The match between PSM Makassar vs Dewa United ended in a painful defeat for the hosts. PSM must be defeated with a score of 1-2. The hosts’ goal was scored in the 19th minute through Kenzo Nambu, while the visitors’ two goals were scored by Dimitrios Kolosov in the 48th minute and Alex at the end of the second half.
