Referee Protests About Eating Sandwiches, Sheffield Coach Sanctioned

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The English Football Association (Football Association/FA) imposed sanctions on Sheffield United coach Chris Wilder. The sanction was given because Wilder took an “inappropriate” action when protesting against the referee eating a sandwich in the match against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

On January 30 2024, Wilder rebuked referee Tony Harrington as “ridiculous” when Sheffield United lost 2-3 to Crystal Palace.

The 56-year-old coach also protested against the assistant referee who ate a sandwich when Wilder protested after the match.

“Chris Wilder was charged with breaching FA Regulation E3.1 in connection with his comments after the Premier League match between Sheffield United and Crystal Palace on Tuesday 30 January,” wrote the FA, Wednesday (14/2/2024) local time.

“The comments are alleged to have been inappropriate because they implied bias and/or attacked the integrity of the referee, or referees in general, and/or brought the game into disrepute,” the FA said.

At that time, Wilder chased the referee to protest the decision which he thought had harmed his team.

However, Wilder was angry because he saw an assistant referee eating a sandwich while he was conveying his protest.

“One of his assistants was eating a sandwich, which I thought was a complete lack of respect,” Wilder said.

“Hopefully he's enjoying his sandwich while he's talking to the Premier League coaches,” Wilder said.

Sheffield United is currently in the bottom position of the Premier League with 13 points, seven points adrift of Luton who are in the safe zone ranked 17th.
