Tuchel Called His Team's Performance Like a Joke

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel criticized his team's performance which he called a “joke” when they lost 0-1 to Lazio on Thursday (15/2/2023) early morning WIB, putting them in a difficult situation to advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The penalty scored by Ciro Immobile in the first half was the deciding factor in the last 16 match which took place in Rome. The penalty was caused by a foul committed by defender Dayot Upamecano. This French defender also had to leave the field as a result of this violation.

Tuchel stated, “In the first half, we should have been ahead. We had three clear opportunities. We should have taken advantage of them, but failed.”

The coach who once managed Chelsea also added, “The second half was full of uncertainty. It felt like a joke.”

Bayern were forced to appear with 10 players after Dayot Upamecano was sent off for fouling Gustav Isaksen in the penalty box in the 67th minute. Immobile then became the executor who successfully converted the penalty into a single goal for Lazio.

“Our performance was filled with many individual errors, and we missed penalties and got red cards for something unnecessary. With a performance like this, we cannot win the game, this is really our fault,” said Tuchel.

The defeat to Lazio came after a 0-3 loss to Bayer Leverkusen. This leaves Bayern five points behind the top of the German League standings.

However, Tuchel emphasized that he is not worried about his position as Bayern coach.

Regarding Upamecano, Bayern revealed that the French player was the target of racial abuse on social media. The Bavarian club firmly defended their central defender.

“FC Bayern strongly condemns the racist comments directed at Dayot Upamecano on social media. Those who made these hateful comments are not fans of our club,” Bayern said in a statement on their official account.
