SEA Games: Indonesia meets Vietnam in the Football Semifinals

– Indonesia is certain to meet Vietnam in the semifinals of the 2023 SEA Games football branch in Cambodia. This certainty was obtained after Vietnam became runner-up Group B after a 1-1 draw with Thailand, Thursday (11/5/2023).

The result of the match made Thailand the right to win Group B with 10 points. The value of Thailand is the same as Vietnam but superior on goal difference.

Thailand took the lead after Achitpol Keereerom scored a goal after only two minutes of play. However, Vietnam made sure to take one point after Lê Quốc Nhậ Nam equalized in the 55th minute.

In the other match in Group B, Malaysia beat Singapore, 7-0. Malaysia’s winning goals were scored by Saravanan Thirumurugan who scored four goals in the 14th, 47th, 53rd and 62nd minutes, Haqimi Azim (45+2), Mukhairi Ajmal (87) and Aiman Afif (90+3).

However, this landslide victory was unable to help Malaysia advance to the semifinals. They were only able to end the preliminary round with six points and were only in third place. While Singapore is in the caretaker of Group B under Laos.

Indonesia itself advanced to the semifinals by winning Group A status. With a perfect 12 points from four matches, Indra Sjafri’s troops are one level above Myanmar who are in second place with a collection of 9 points.

The semifinal match between Indonesia and Vietnam will be held on Saturday 13 May 2023 at the Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh, starting at 16.00 WIB. Meanwhile, the other semifinal between Thailand and Myanmar will be held on the same day and location starting at 19.00 WIB.

While the final will be held on Tuesday, 16 May 2023 also at the Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh starting at 19.30 WIB. Previously, there will be a match for the bronze medal.
