Second highest percentage of health insurance switchers since 2006,

7 percent of the insured, a total of about 1.2 million people, switched to another insurer this year. It is the second highest percentage since the introduction of the Health Insurance Act in 2006, according to final figures from Vektis on Friday.

Only in 2013 was the percentage higher at 7.2 percent. In 2018, 6.2 percent exchanged their insurance, the year before it was 6.4 percent.

Health insurers the Netherlands (ZN) came in January with provisional figures. That organization had more than 1.1 million people who had switched, or 6.6 percent of all insured persons.

Chairman André Rouvoet of ZN stated that the percentage may have been higher than in previous years because there is more supply.

Insured persons can cancel their health insurance until 1 January. They then have until 1 February at the latest to take out a new insurance.
