The Indonesian U-16 Basketball National Team is Optimistic about Qualifying for the 2023 FIBA ​​Asian Championship

Surabaya, Beritasatu.com – The Indonesian U-16 basketball national team is ready to compete in the SEABA U-16 qualification for the 2023 FIBA ​​Asian Championship which will be held on 17-19 July 2023 at GOR CLS Surabaya.

In this qualification, Indonesia will compete with the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia to qualify for the FIBA ​​Asian U-16 Championship in Doha, Qatar.

The coach of the Indonesian U-16 national team Herry Wijaya admitted that the competition in the qualifying round was very tight because the strengths of the four countries were balanced.

“On the first day of qualifying, Indonesia against Thailand. On the second day we face Malaysia and on the last day we face the Philippines. Of course, as hosts, we are optimistic that we can qualify,” said the Indonesian U-16 National Team Coach, Herry Wijaya, Tuesday (18/7/2023).

The city of Surabaya will host the FIBA ​​U-16 qualifying round in the Southeast Asia region. As a preparation, the Indonesian U-16 National Team has conducted a selection for the 5-7 July 2023 period.

As a result, 24 players were selected to strengthen the U-16 National Team from 77 of Indonesia’s best young basketball players who took part in the selection.

After the selection, it was continued by holding training camps including trials against the Indonesian women’s basketball national team.

From this qualifying round, two countries will be selected to advance to the FIBA ​​final​​​​​​​​​Asia U-16 Championship which will take place on 17-24 September 2023 in Doha, Qatar.
