Twitter competitor ‘Mastodon’ Users Soar After Elon Musk Limits Viewable Tweets

Todaysgist.com, Jakarta – Twitter’s competitor platform seems to have benefited a lot from Elon Musk’s policy, regarding limiting the number of Tweets that users read on Twitter.

One of them is Mastodon. CEO and founder Eugen Rochko, recently through his account revealed that the number of users of the platform has increased to 294,000.

“So, weekend reckoning: The number of active users across Mastodon went up by 294K, and posting activity roughly tripled,” he wrote, quoted Wednesday (5/7/2023).

“Lots of new signups, but also lots of returning users. Great time!” he added via the Mastodon account @Gargron @mastodon. social.

To quote IndependentRochko also mentioned that on Sunday, the platform had active users which increased to 110,000 in a day.

“I prefer if Elon Musk destroys his site during the work week. This is not the first time,” said Rochko.

Mastodon has a decentralized structure that depends on users to support it, as well as building its own network. This platform is not purely social media, but rather software free and open-source.

Mastodon has many features similar to Twitter. However, instead of being controlled by a single company, it is installed on thousands of computer servers, most run by voluntary administrators who bundle their systems together in a federation.

Mastodon was launched in 2016 by Rochko, and was widely highlighted when Elon Musk started to annex Twitter, as an alternative to the social media.

Elon Musk was one of the speakers who appeared virtually at the B20 Summit event which was held in Bali. On this occasion, he discussed a number of things, from Tesla, SpaceX, to Twitter.
