U-20 World Cup: Korea beat France 2-1
– The South Korean national team defeated France 2-1 in the inaugural Group F match of the U-20 World Cup at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza, western Argentina, Tuesday (23/5/2023).
Korea opened the scoring through a goal scored by Lee Seung-won in the 22nd minute. The advantage of coach Kim Eun-jung’s team was doubled through Lee Young-jun’s goal in the 64th minute.
France replied one goal through the penalty spot which was scored by Alan Virginius in the 70th minute.
It was the first time in six years that South Korea won their first match in the group stage of the Under-20 World Cup since 2017, beating Guinea 3-0.
In the previous tournament in 2019, South Korea lost its first group match against Portugal 1-0, but finished as runner-up under Ukraine. The 2021 tournament was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
