Welcoming the U-17 World Cup, Erick Thohir Helped JIS Move Up

PSSI Chairperson Erick Thohir has started observing JIS directly with PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono and Acting DKI Jakarta. with Governor Heru Budi Hartono. According to Erick Thohir, JIS needs to raise its class and the U-17 World Cup is a possibility.

Erick dismissed the notion that the JIS renovation plan was politically charged because his party had planned to renovate as many as 22 Indonesian football stadiums.

“This is everyone’s good intention, especially the good intentions of football fans, don’t get involved in political issues. The presidential election will go its own way,” Erick told reporters in Jakarta, Thursday (6/7/2023).

He hopes that in addition to needing support from the government and especially the people of Jakarta so that this proud stadium can be used according to FIFA standards.

The same thing was conveyed by Head of Hijrah Phirman Reza, who hoped that the opportunity to host the U-17 World Cup would no longer be wasted so that it would no longer fail like the U-20 World Cup.

“Don’t be too political about JIS at this time. JIS needs help to climb and also has momentum, so Pak Erick, PSSI and the Council are currently working to realize the Jakarta people’s pending dream of making JIS a truly world class stadium. I really support this step, I can’t wait to see the U-17 World Cup at JIS,” said Phirman.

Phirman, who is also the former Secretary General of KAMMI, hopes that public transportation can also be accelerated, such as a new train station near JIS and a better connection to Transjakarta.

“I also hope that the Ministry of SOEs through KAI can accelerate the construction of the JIS train station and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to develop Transjakarta services towards JIS. I’m sure the people of Jakarta and Indonesia are waiting for the best moment,” he added.
