2 Arema Assistant Coaches from Portugal Resign After Change of Head Coach

Malang, Beritasatu.com – Two Arema FC assistant coaches from Portugal, namely Daniel Chaves and Nelson Leitao, resigned from the Singo Edan team after there was a change in head coach at the club.

Arema FC manager, Wiebie Dwi Andriyas stated that the two assistant coaches had officially submitted their resignations, and the club management respected their decision.

“We have spoken with Daniel Chaves and Nelson Leitao, and they chose not to continue their careers at Arema FC. We respect their decision,” said Wiebie.

Wiebie explained that the two assistant coaches from Portugal were initially recruited by club management at the request of coach Fernando Valente, who was then replaced by Widodo Cahyono Putro.

These two assistant coaches, he added, joined to help Valente in training the Arema FC team. However, after the team suffered defeat in the match against PSIS Semarang on February 5, Valente was fired by the club management.

“Against Rans Nusantara at the Sultan Agung Bantul Stadium on Thursday (22/2/2024) was their last match with Arema FC,” he added.

In September 2023, Arema FC management recruited two UEFA A licensed assistant coaches, namely Daniel Chaves and Nelson Leitao, with the hope that they could help coach Fernando Valente's performance.

The arrival of these two assistant coaches was in line with the needs of the Singo Edan team at that time. Their recruitment is management's commitment to strengthen the Arema FC squad in order to achieve the best results in the League 1 competition.

On February 9, Widodo Cahyono Putro was appointed as head coach to coach the Arema FC team in the remaining 2023/2024 Liga 1 competition.

Widodo was chosen because he was considered to have a strong personality to manage the team, especially in a difficult situation like the current one, when Arema FC is struggling to get out of the relegation zone.

Currently, Arema FC is ranked 16th in the 2023 Liga 1 standings with 24 points. This team has played 25 matches with six wins, six draws and 13 defeats.
