Atalanta Meets Marseille in the Europa League Semifinals

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Italian club Atalanta advanced to the semifinals of the Europa League and will meet French club Marseille. Atalanta packed their ticket to the top four after stopping Liverpool 3-1 on aggregate.

Liverpool failed to advance to the top four of the Europa League despite winning deep legs both quarter-finals at home to Atalanta, Friday (19/4/2024) early morning WIB.

In the match at Gewiss Stadium, the club nicknamed The Reds won 1-0 thanks to Mohamed Salah's single goal after only seven minutes of the game. However, they lost 1-3 on aggregate because in the first match at Anfield Stadium a week ago they gave up with a landslide score of 0-3.

Atalanta also managed to pack a semifinal ticket. In the last four, the team coached by Gian Piero Gasperini will meet French club Marseille. The team coached by Jean-Louis Gasset secured a ticket to the semifinals after eliminating Benfica with an aggregate of 4-2.

In this match, Marseille won 1-0 thanks to Faris Moumbagna's goal in the 79th minute. The match had to be finished with a penalty shootout because after playing 90 minutes and extra time the aggregate remained 1-1.

In the penalty shootout, two of Benfica's penalty takers failed to score, namely Angel Di Maria and Antonio Silva. Meanwhile, the second and third kickers, Orkun Kocku and Nicolas Otamendi, managed to break through the opponent's goal.

In the other semifinal match, Roma will meet German champions Bayer Leverkusen. Roma secured their semifinal ticket after winning 3-1 on aggregate. On legs First last week at home to Milan, they won 1-0. Meanwhile on legs secondly at the Stadio Olimpico, Daniele De Rossi's troops also narrowly won 2-1.

Roma's two winning goals were scored respectively by Gianluca Mancini in the 12th minute and Paulo Dybala (22). Meanwhile, Milan responded thanks to Matteo Gabbia's action in the 85th minute.

The Europa League semi-finals will be held twice on 2 and 9 May 2024. Marseille and Roma will be the hosts first.
