Basic health insurance,

All health insurers announced their health care premiums for 2022 on Monday. Not one insurer has reduced its premium for next year. However, two insurers keep their premiums the same, namely Promovendum and Besured.

The four largest insurers Zilveren Kruis (Achmea), VGZ, CZ and Menzis increase the premiums of their basic insurance by 7.50 euros, 4.75 euros, 8.55 euros and 3 euros per month respectively.

An outlier is PNOzorg, where you will pay 17.74 euros more per month. The cabinet announced on Budget Day that it expected an average increase of 10 euros. According to researcher Moneyview, premiums will increase by an average of 5.7 percent, or 76 euros per year.

Anyone looking for another health insurance must cancel their existing policy before 1 January 2019. Until the end of January 2019, a new insurance can then be taken out, which will take effect retroactively.

Do you opt for a refund or a natura policy?

When choosing a new insurance, you should pay attention not only to the premium, but also to the type of policy. Is it a refund policy, a natura policy, a combination policy or a budget policy?

With a refund policy you can go to a healthcare provider of your choice. However, you often have to advance the bill if the insurer does not have a contract with the provider. You can then declare this afterwards.

If you have a policy in kind, the health insurer pays the bill from the healthcare provider directly. However, you will only receive full compensation if the provider has a contract with the insurer. With other healthcare providers, you will be reimbursed part of the amount. So you have less freedom of choice.

A combination policy is a combination of a nature policy and a refund policy, while a budget policy is a stripped-down in-kind policy. With a budget policy, the reimbursement for non-contracted healthcare providers is lower, or fewer providers are contracted.
