Bill Cosby appeals conviction in 1975 abuse case – Bill was accused of sexually abusing a then sixteen-year-old girl in 1975. The jury of the court in California found the former actor from the US guilty of that offense and this week obliged him to pay a 500,000 dollar (more than 473,000 euros) in damages to victim Judy Huth.

In addition to paying the damages, Cosby was not fined. In this civil case, these are currently the only legally valid convictions of the now 84-year-old Cosby, who would have forced the now 64-year-old Huth to perform sexual acts during a visit to the Playboy Mansion.

According to Variety, Cosby’s spokesman therefore qualified Tuesday’s statement as a “mind-boggling victory” for the fallen comedian, but he stressed that Cosby nevertheless objects. The former actor has always denied all allegations.

Cosby, who was released last year after serving two years in prison, has been accused of sexual abuse by dozens of women. Almost all of these offences are time-barred.

The one case that was not, brought by Andrea Contend, did not lead to a prison sentence because the trial would have been unfair. The supreme court rejected a request for reopening in March.
