Brain Bleeding, Legendary Dutch Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar Enters ICU

– Former Ajax CEO and legendary Dutch goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar, is in intensive care at a hospital in Croatia after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

His condition is reported to be stable but remains worrying. The former goalkeeper, who is now 52 years old, was treated intensively while on holiday in Croatia.

Van der Sar, who has 130 caps for his country, resigning from his post as executive director of Ajax in May 2023. He stepped down after Ajax finished third in the Dutch league and failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2009.

Van der Sar previously retired from football after leaving Manchester United in 2011 before joining the Ajax board of directors in 2012. Four years later he was entrusted with serving as Ajax’s executive director.

“After almost 11 years on the board, I’m tired,” said Van der Sar when he announced he would be leaving Ajax in May.
