Buy 49ers Group Shares, Russell Westbrook Will Be Owner of Leeds United

NBA star Russell Westbrook will become a co-owner of Leeds United after he bought shares in the 49ers group which is in the process of taking over the English football club.

He will join a number of other NBA basketball players who have large stakes in football clubs. One of the NBA stars who became the owner of an English football club was LeBron James at the Liverpool club.

The 34-year-old Los Angeles Clippers point guard will join Americans Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in buying a stake in the 49ers group.

The 49ers Enterprises group, the investment unit of the National Football League (NFL) San Francisco 49ers franchise, has been a shareholder in Leeds United since the initial investment in May 2018.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to speak to some of the partners on this deal, who already have ownership, the 49ers,” Westbrook said at a sports and entertainment summit hosted by Sportico.

“So I’ve been lucky enough to talk about it with friends, talk to my business partners as well about things and have conversations, figure out if this is the right deal and how can we make a difference.”

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani agreed to sell his stake to the investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers NFL franchise after their relegation from the English Premier League.
