Elon Musk opens up the opportunity for Dogecoin to be used to buy Tesla

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Tesla and Spacex CEO Elon Musk has stated that Tesla should enable dogecoin (DOGE) as a payment method for its vehicles at some point. He exclaimed, “Dogecoin to the moon,” while explaining his reasons for supporting the meme coin.

“Many rich people support bitcoin… But people at Tesla and Spacex want me to support DOGE,” said Elon Musk, quoted from Bitcoin.com, Saturday (16/3/2024).

Elon Musk stated that Tesla should enable DOGE payments for its vehicles during an event at Tesla's Giga Berlin. Musk was asked by one of the viewers about the possibility of purchasing a Tesla vehicle with DOGE.

“At some point, I think we have to get it on… Dogecoin to the moon,” answered Elon Musk

Musk, who is also the boss of X (formerly Twitter), also shared the story of why he is a loyal supporter of Dogecoin. It started when he walked around the Tesla factory. Some people who work there asked Musk if he could support DOGE.

He also experienced something similar when he was at SpaceX. He found that this meme coin is quite popular among the people. So Musk thinks it doesn't matter if he supports DOGE.

“I think DOGE is the people's cryptocurrency. So, I will support it… A lot of rich people use bitcoin… But people want me to support DOGE. I will support DOGE,” Musk said.

Musk has a long history of championing dogecoin. He is known in the crypto community as the Dogefather. Musk previously revealed that he owns dogecoin, bitcoin and ether. In January, Musk confirmed that he still owned some dogecoin. However, he denied being a dogecoin dealer (whale).

Recent on-chain analysis revealed that Tesla owns 11,509 bitcoins and Spacex owns 8,285 BTC. In 2021, Tesla accepted bitcoin for vehicle payments.
