“We will fill in only one match, namely the 8th against Turkmenistan at Gelora Bung Tomo Surabaya,” said Erick Thohir in a press conference, Thursday (20/7/2023), in Jakarta.

FIFA Matchday friendly matches were actually held twice. However, PSSI only held one match in the September 2023 trial match because it was close to the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers in Solo.

Erick said, the composition of the senior national team and the U-23 national team were not much different, so this was also a factor that made PSSI decide that the September 2023 FIFA Matchday would only be held once.

“So only one, not filling in two because there is AFC U-23 because we also have to make sure this player can of course fill in match programs in September,” said Erick.

The match against Turkmenistan will be used by the Indonesian national team as a preparation for qualifying for the 2026 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup.
