Fighting for Three Games, Putri KW Qualifies for the Top 16 of the 2023 Korea Open

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Women’s singles, Putri Kusuma Wardani, advanced to the last 16 of the Korea Open 2023 after playing three games and defeating Goh Jin Wei, at Jinnam Stadium, Yeosu, Wednesday (19/7/2023).

Putri, who is now ranked 35th, defeated the badminton player who was in 33rd position with a score of 21-18, 14-21, and 21-19. Putri got rid of the Malaysian representative after 52 minutes of fighting.

The battle between two badminton players who are not much different in rank has been tight from the start. There have been eight draws so the score was 9-9 in the first game. Putri then took the lead 11-9 so there was an interval.

Since the score was tied at 8-8, Putri then continued to excel and was never overtaken again and finished the first game 21-8.

In the second game, Goh rose. The score was tied at 2-2, but then Goh took the lead. By relying on smashes and careful ball play, he continues to leave Putri without being chased again. Goh led 11-4 so there was an interval.

Putri several times to collect points but never able to equalize. Goh then finished the second game with a 21-14 advantage.

Entering the deciding game, Putri got back up despite stiff resistance from her opponent. There have been seven draws so the score is 8-8.

Little by little Putri managed to collect points. But Goh also did not give up easily. He then managed to equalize so the score was 16-16.

The fight continued to be tense so that the score was tied again 18-18 and 19-19. But Putri managed to overcome this situation and won the third game with a narrow score of 21-19.

In the round of 16 on Thursday (10/7/2023), Putri will face the winner between badminton players Lianne Tan from Belgium against second seed An Se Young from South Korea.
