Football and nightlife with a giant wall mark 15 years of the Carquejo Tournament – ​​Cidades na Net

The village of Carquejo, located in the rural area of ​​the municipality of Belém do Piauí, hosted, for yet another year, the traditional Holy Week Amateur Football Tournament, one of the largest and most traditional of this period in the region.

Promoted by the City Hall, under the management of Mayor Ademar Carvalho, through the Municipal Department of Culture, Tourism, Sports and Leisure, the competition has been taking place for 15 years, always on Thursdays, and moves the town, bringing together the local community and visitors from municipalities in the region.

The Tournament included the participation of teams from the municipalities of Belém do Piauí, Vila Nova do Piauí, Caldeirão Grande do Piauí, Francisco Macedo, Jaicós, Marcolândia, Massapê do Piauí and Padre Marcos.

The games went on throughout the day. In the morning the qualifying stage took place, and in the afternoon, the semi-finals and the grand final, played between the teams from Massapê do Piauí and Padre Marcos.

With a draw in regulation time, the title had to be played on penalties. Padre Marcos was better, won and won the title of champion of the 2024 edition. In addition to the title, the team took away the cash prize worth R$1,500. Massapê, runner-up, received R$900.

One of this year's highlights was the presence of one of the largest mobile sound structures in the Northeast. After the awards ceremony, there was a party to the sound of Caminhão JM.

Sherlyn Oliveira, municipal secretary of Administration and coordinator of the Tournament's organizing committee, commented on the success of the event.

“It is a pleasure for those of us who manage Belém to see this success in yet another edition of the Carquejo Tournament. This event was conceived by Mayor Ademar in his first administration, it was successful, and today it is a success, it draws the attention of the entire region, promotes sport and moves our municipality, especially here in the town of Carquejo. And we enjoy sport, we do it with pleasure and end up with a feeling of duty accomplished, with goals achieved, with God’s help.”, he said.

In an interview with the portal Cities on the Net, Mayor Ademar Carvalho recalled the beginning of the Tournament and highlighted its growth over the years. The sporting event was created during its first administration.

“It started small, with teams from the municipality, and today it turns 15 years old, a large event with the participation of teams from several municipalities and being one of the largest in the region. We are happy with all this success. I would like to thank the entire organizing team and the participating municipalities. Gratitude to God for blessing another event.”, he said.

The manager emphasized that the Tournament has become great in several aspects, whether through integration around amateur football, public participation, as well as providing entertainment and generating work and income.

There, several stalls are set up and sell a variety of food and drinks, as well as children's and party toys, giving many families the opportunity to earn extra income.

In addition to local authorities, such as vice-mayor Tico Bento, the secretary of Culture, Tourism, Sports and Leisure, Edson Ribeiro, civil engineer Jônathas Noronha, councilors Bernardino Carvalho (president of the Chamber), Francisco Zacarias (Burenga), Ildmar Granja, Mércia Carolina, Francisco Felipe (Cicisso), Kalebe Pedro, Elieudo Junior, Cristiana Carvalho and Epifânio Olegário

The event also brought together visitors, such as mayors Novim (from Francisco Macedo), Filipe Gonçalves (from Caldeirão), Dr. Corinto (from Marcolândia), Belim (from Vila Nova), among others.
