Bangkok, Todaysgist.com – One Fight Night 12: Superlek vs. Khalilov which was held on Saturday (15/7/2023) then gave birth to a number of potential challengers who could win the One Championship world title.
Of the nine matches presented, seven of them ended by finishing, either passing knock out (KO) or technical knockout (TKO) or lockdown. Five winners even managed to take home an additional bonus worth US$50,000 (Rp. 750 million). They are Garry Tonon, Amir Aliakbari, Phetjeeja, Akbar Abdullaev, and Bogdan Shumarov.
Here’s a summary of One Fight Night 12 and potential next opponents:
Superlek Supremacy
Superlek Kiatmoo9’s dominance has not been broken. Not wanting to give it any chance, Superlek finished his mission in the second round against Tagir Khalilov in a 135.25 pound (61.35 kilograms) Muay Thai catchweight contest.
The ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion and number one Muay Thai contender tore through her Russian foe.
Since the opening bell, Superlek didn’t give Khalilov room to breathe through various sharp attacks.
With the intensity of his attacks, “The Kicking Machine” finished the job in the second round. Khalilov was unable to respond to the constant elbows swinging at him forcing referee Olivier Coste to stop the bout.
Over the past 12 months, the 27-year-old Thai fighter has maintained a 6-0 record with four knockouts. Simply put, Superlek does appear to be from another world.
With this victory, it is possible that Superlek will face Rodtang Jitmuangnon or even move up one division to face Jonathan Haggerty.
The Threat of a Featherweight MMA Challenger
Garry Tonon and Akbar Abdullaev showed an impressive fight at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.
Tonon was able to neutralize the attacks of the undefeated fighter Shamil Gasanov at the start of the fight. The American fighter withstood a series of heavy knees before clinch submissions in the second round via kneebar lock.
In their previous bout in the same division, Akbar Abdullaev stopped Aaron Canarte even quicker than during his ONE Championship debut victory. In fact, in his two bouts at One, the 25-year-old Kyrgyz man has only spent less than 90 seconds.
For their performance, which received cheers from the audience, Tonon and Abdullaev received a US$50,000 appearance bonus from One Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong. Tonon and Abdullaev are now eyeing the top fighters in their division.
There’s no guarantee when they will fight as there are plenty of strong contenders also eyeing a chance against One Featherweight world champion Tang Kai. What is certain, the two of them also challenged Martin Nguyen, a former two-division One Championship champion.
