Increasingly mushrooming, Kominfo blocks 10 thousand online gambling content every day

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The government has agreed to form an Online Gambling Eradication Task Force as a firm step in eradicating online gambling practices.

Regarding online gambling content which seems to have no end, the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi stated that by May 21 2024, there would have been almost two million pieces of content being handled.

“The government is committed to eradicating online gambling from its source. “Kominfo took down or blocked 1,904,246 content from 17 July 2023 to 21 May 2024,” he said after attending a follow-up internal meeting to discuss the eradication of online gambling at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (22/05/2024).

Through his official statement, quoted on Thursday (23/5/2024), Budi stated that during one month from the Online Gambling Eradication Meeting on April 19 2024 to May 21 2024, the Ministry of Communication and Information handled 290,850 pieces of online gambling content spread across various digital platforms.

“Approximately one month since the last online gambling meeting, Kominfo has almost taken down 290,850 pieces of content related to online gambling. “Almost 300,000, so there could be close to 10,000 pieces of online gambling content a day,” he said.

According to the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie, handling of online gambling content on digital platforms is carried out based on keywords.

Furthermore, Kominfo collaborated with digital platform organizers and cut off access to online gambling content found.

“We continue to coordinate with all digital platforms such as Google and Meta, where keyword changes occur. “On Google there are 20,241 keywords, while 2,637 new keywords were discovered on the Meta platform,” said the Minister of Communication and Information.
