Junior International Grand Prix 2023: Jonatan/Adrian Won U-19 Men’s Doubles

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The U-19 men’s doubles Jonatan Gosal/Adrian Pratama won the 2023 International Grand Prix title which took place at GOR PB Jaya Raya Bintaro, South Tangerang. The title was won by the PB Jaya Raya fostered duo after defeating the Malaysian pair, Muhammad Faiq/Lok Hong Quan in the final round, 21-12, 21-11, Sunday (23/7/2023).

“It’s great to be able to finish the match well and not get injured. I’m also grateful because we haven’t won together for a long time,” said Adrian after the match.

“Yes, that’s right. It’s also nice to be able to win. The last champion here was in 2019,” added Jonathan.

Regarding the victory he won, Jonathan admitted that he was just trying to play loose and carefree. In addition, always communicate with colleagues and close existing weaknesses.

Unfortunately Adrian’s success in doubles was not followed in mixed doubles. Adrian, who was partnered with Ariella Naqiyyah, was defeated by third seed Darren Aurelius/Titis Maulida Rahma 21-19, 20-22, 17-21.

From the U-19 men’s singles number, Moh Zaki Ubaidillah won easily over Zhe Ying Wu from Taipei 21-16, 21-18. Indonesian representatives in the women’s doubles, Ariella Naqiyyah/Rachel Agnesia Sabatini had to settle for being runners up after being defeated by top seeded Japanese duo Mei Sudo/Nao Yamakita.

“I just try to play my best and win the title,” said Sudo. “The opponent’s game was pretty good, but I tried to be calmer and go through the match,” said Nao.

For the U-15 women’s singles, second seed Raisya Affatunisa won the title after winning 21-16, 21-18 over Thailand’s Phattarin Aiamvareeseisakul. Then the U-15 men’s singles, Lucas Lee from Malaysia, won over third seed Thailand, 21-10, 21-19.

U-15 men’s doubles Hazel Prasetyo/Faza Ramdhan defeated top seeded Thai pair Woranan Saengvanich/Lucas Wedler 10-21, 21-17, 21-11.

With the completion of this event, Indonesian badminton legend Rudy Hartono believes that this event can be a kind of measurement or barometer for developing junior players. “The Yonex Sunrise Pembangunan Jaya Raya Junior International Grand Prix 2023 is very important for the world of Indonesian badminton. From a tournament like this, future young players will emerge to be prepared as new champions in the badminton world,” said Rudy.
