Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The steps of Indonesian junior badminton players are still not yet in the 2023 Junior International Grand Prix Tournament.

From the U-15 women’s singles number, Alvira Adelia Putri from Jaya Raya made it to the last 16 by surprise beating the 9th seed from Malaysia, Lee Mun. Alvira managed to win 21-14, 21-17 in the match at GOR PB Jaya Raya Bintaro, Wednesday (19/7/2023).

Having been tense at the start of the match, Alvira slowly finally managed to calm down. “Earlier I lost my focus because I was tense and pressured by my opponent. For the next match, I will try to improve physically and be better than before,” said Alvira, who has a minimum target of breaking into the top eight.

From the U-19 women’s singles number, Azzahra Melani Arjisetya, seeded eight, defeated another Indonesian player, Rahma Elvira Jowitasari 21-15, 21-12.

Then from the U-19 men’s singles, Ryan Putra Widyanto advanced to the round of 16 after stopping the eighth seed from the United Arab Emirates, Dev Vishnu 21-11, 21-14.

One of the tough opponents for Indonesian junior badminton players in this tournament came from Japan. This is because a number of Japanese badminton players who won the 2023 Asia Junior Championships (AJC) team number participated in this tournament.

Two Japanese representatives to watch out for are the fifth seeded men’s doubles in the U-19 category, Kenta Matsukawa/Daigo Tanioka and the first seeded women’s doubles U-19 May Sudo/Nao Yamakita. The four players also played in singles.

“This tournament has the biggest points in Asia, so it is certain that the participants will get high points as well as experience competing in international tournaments. The participation of Japanese players who won the Asia Junior Championships team number in Yogyakarta shows the importance of this tournament for them,” said Rosiana.

Rosiana hopes that the junior players must perform optimally and take advantage of the opportunity to see a game or experience competing with foreign players. “Hopefully the host players will perform optimally to win the title. Apart from that, the tournament should become a barometer for coaching junior players in the country,” continued Rosiana.
