KONI Center Hopes Rock Climbing Donates Medals at the Paris Olympics

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) is optimistic that the sport of rock climbing will contribute medals to Indonesia at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The General Chair of the Central KONI, Lieutenant General TNI Purn Marciano Norman, stated that rock climbing has great potential to win medals at the 2024 Olympics.

“So far, our tradition of gold medals has mainly come from badminton, but this time, we see the great potential of the sport of rock climbing. The achievements of Indonesian rock climbing athletes have always been proud, both at the ASEAN, Asia and world levels, and now we will see it also at the 2024 Paris Olympics,” said Marciano in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/3/2024).

Marciano also hopes that the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI) will prepare athletes who are able to replace the role of the world's current world-class rock climbing athletes. He emphasized the importance of paying attention to athlete regeneration. Therefore, Marciano called for improving the quality of FPTI's organizational governance so that it can carry out programs that produce achievements.

“Organizational governance must be improved, coaching and socialization of rock climbing must also be strengthened so that this sport remains a leading sport that makes Indonesia proud by achieving brilliant achievements at international events,” added Marciano.

Apart from that, in the context of athlete regeneration, Marciano emphasized that FPTI must optimally prepare athletes who do not have experience through their participation in the 2024 National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh-North Sumatra.

“I hope that at the XXI National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh-North Sumatra 2024, young athletes from FPTI will emerge who can replace our senior athletes who are currently being prepared for the Olympics,” added Marciano.

Meanwhile, the General Chair of FPTI, Yenny Wahid, emphasized that the FPTI organization would be strengthened so that it could make a greater contribution to improving the performance of Indonesian rock climbing athletes.

“Many national and international agendas are still waiting for FPTI to handle them. One of them is preparations to send representatives to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Therefore, FPTI is required to work quickly and hard,” said Yenny.
