Indonesian Women’s Golfers Dominate Medco-Pondok Indah Amateur Golf Championship

Indonesian female golfers dominate the top three rankings in the opening match of the Medco-Pondok Indah Amateur Golf Championship which took place at Pondok Indah Golf Course, Jakarta, on Tuesday (4/7/2023).

Meanwhile, in the men’s division, Gabriel Hansel Hari, the host golfer, faces tough competition from Malcolm Ting Sion Hung from Malaysia.

Elaine Widjaja became the leader in the women’s division by scoring 69 strokes or 3 under par. Sania Talita Wahyudi took second place with a difference of two strokes. Reicherin Giftrudy Hanslkie and Viera Permata Rosada are in third place with each scoring 72 strokes or par.

Even though she performed satisfactorily on the first day, Elaine still made maximum preparations for the match on the second day.

“As usual, I did my previous routine by showing up an hour before the game and having eaten. I warmed up on the driving range for 30 minutes so I could figure out where to go. Tomorrow, my focus will be on distance control and driving shots. After making driving shots to fairway, the next shot will be better,” said Elaine.

He managed to score 5 birdies on holes 2, 6, 9, 10 and 12, as well as 2 bogeys on holes 14 and 18. According to him, today’s field conditions were very good, from the tee box to the green. The challenge he faces is the position of the pins on several holes.

Gabriel is in second place in the standings by scoring 69 strokes or 3 under par, only one stroke away from Malcolm who is in first place. Gabriel will stay focused on his game plan.

“Today my game was quite good. Therefore, tomorrow I will stay focused on the initial game plan without any changes. Hopefully more putters will make it in,” said Gabriel.

Djonnie Rahmat, as the Medco-Pondok Indah Amateur Golf Championship 2023 Project Officer, was pleased to see the enthusiasm and performances of the participants, especially Indonesian golfers.

“I really appreciate their efforts. However, I see that there are still many players who are still unsure. Maybe it’s because of the adjustments on the first day of the tournament. Hopefully tomorrow they can play more freely,” he said.

The number of spectators who attended quite a lot, about 200 people. According to Djonnie, the number of registrants to get the main door prize in the form of a Vespa LX 125 motorbike was less than 150 people. Therefore, the chance to win the motorbike is getting bigger. The draw will be made on the last day.
