Korea Open 2023: Second Place Opponent, Putri KW Will Play Free

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Indonesian women’s singles, Putri Kusuma Wardani, said she would play freely when she met second place, An Se Young in the top 16 of the 2023 Korea Open, Thursday (20/7/2023).

In today’s match, Wednesday (19/7/2023), Putri admitted that she was carried away by her opponent’s game but then got up and won so that she could qualify for the last 16 of the Korea Open.

Competing at the Jinnam Stadium, Putri successfully stopped the Malaysian representative, Goh Jin Wei, with a narrow score of 21-18, 14-21, 21-19. Putri was also grateful to be able to end the match with a positive result.

Meanwhile, An Se Young advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Belgian representative Lianne Tan. The second seed beat Tan with a score of 21-10, 21-14.

“Alhamdulillah, I was able to win today’s match, even though the struggle was not easy. Goh Jin Wei is the type of player who is not easily killed. Even though his stature is relatively small, his shots and the way he predicts the game are quite good,” Putri said shortly after the match.

“In the first game I played well, what did I prepare before the match was already underway. But in the second and third game, I had time to get into his slow pattern. I also ended up slowing down the tempo which ended up being behind or tight points,” continued Putri .

In the last 16 round, Putri met host mainstay An Se Young who advanced to the last 16 after defeating Lianne Tan from Belgium. Putri is determined to appear carefree.

“Whoever the opponent is tomorrow, I’m ready. Even if I meet An Se Young, I will try to appear carefree and give my best game,” said Putri.

After Women, Indonesia still has one more women’s singles that will compete in the top 32 of the 2023 Korea Open. She is Gregoria Mariska Tunjung who is challenged by Clara Azurmendi from Spain.
