English League Implements Semi-Automatic Offside Technology Next Season

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Premier League will implement semi-automatic offside technology or Saot next season, 2024/2025.

“At today's English Premier League shareholder meeting, the clubs unanimously agreed to approve the implementation of semi-automatic offside technology,” wrote the Premier League in an official statement, Thursday (11/4/2024).

The Premier League said that this new system is ready to be used next season or to be precise after the autumn international break.

“This technology will provide faster and more consistent virtual offside line placement based on player optical tracking. This will produce high-quality broadcast graphics to ensure an improved in-stadium and broadcast experience for supporters,” the Premier League said.

The Saot system will later use 12 special cameras installed at strategic points to see more clearly the position of the players and the ball.

As a result, body parts that are considered offside can be seen with this special camera.

When a moment that is considered offside occurs, Saot technology will provide a more precise image angle to be shown through a three-dimensional image.

The three-dimensional image will be displayed on the big screen in the stadium stands and on television broadcasts, so that the audience can pay attention to the referee's decision-making process.

It is estimated that an average of 30 seconds per decision can be saved through the use of Saot.

In this way, the Premier League is following the steps of the Italian Serie A which has used Saot.

The Spanish League will also apply this technology next season.

Saot will be used in the European Cup or Euro 2024 this summer.
