League 1: Dewa United Mute Defending Champion PSM Makassar

– Dewa United managed to steal a 2-1 win over hosts PSM Makassar after winning 2-1 in the second week of the 2023/2024 Indonesia League 1 at the BJ Habibie Parepare Stadium, Saturday (8/7/2023) afternoon.

The host PSM Makassar actually won first through Kenzo Nambu. However, Dewa United managed to turn things around thanks to goals from Dimitris Kolovos and Alex Martins.

The win brought Dewa United to first place in the Indonesian League 1 standings with six points from two games. Meanwhile, PSM Makassar remains in 11th place with two points.

This result made Dewa United the first team to beat PSM Makassar at the BJ Habibie Gelora Stadium because Juku Eja never lost in Ligue 1 last season.

PSM Makassar looked dominant in the match with 53 percent possession and fired four shots, three of which were on target. However, Dewa United appeared to effectively take advantage of the opportunities that arose.

Bernardo Tavares’ men immediately took the initiative to attack and took the lead in the 19th minute through Kenzo Nambu’s goal to make the score 1-0. PSM’s advantage lasted until halftime.

In the second half, Dewa United managed to equalize in the 48th minute through a goal from Greek midfielder Dimitris Kolovos following Ady Setiawan’s pass.

PSM did not remain silent and tried to regain the lead. Substitute Adilson Silva’s header attempt unfortunately still soared above Dewa United. In the second half of extra time, PSM had to play with 10 players after Erwin Gutawa received a direct red card from the referee.

Dewa United was able to take advantage of the number of players who managed to take the lead in the 90+3 minute. Alex Martins’ header from Nasir’s cross managed to tear PSM’s goal so that the score changed to 2-1.

Furthermore, in the third week of the Indonesian League 1, PSM Makassar will visit the Persikabo 1973 headquarters, Friday (14/7/2023). Meanwhile, Dewa United will visit the Persib Bandung headquarters.
