MotoGP, Bezzecchi: Bagnaia and Martin are one step ahead

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Mooney VR46 Racing Team racer, Marco Bezzecchi, emphasized that even though he has failed to finish twice out of the eight MotoGP 2023 series that have been held, Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin are still one step ahead of other racers.

Marco Bezzecchi himself is currently in third place in the drivers’ standings. He has been on the podium four times this season, a feat that the 24-year-old racer did not expect.

Bezzecchi was the first of three independent riders to win races this season, his debut win in Argentina being followed by wins for Alex Rins (LCR Honda, COTA) and Jorge Martin (Pramac Ducati, Sachsenring).

“What I’m most proud of is my first win, which was my real target for this season, but I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly,” admits Bezzecchi.

The victory also made Valentino Rossi’s team racer excel early. Despite picking up a second win in France, Bezzecchi started his summer break sitting third in the standings. He is behind defending champion Bagnaia (36 points ahead) and Pramac’s Martin (1 point ahead).

While Bagnaia and Martin have both had two DNFs so far, Bezzecchi’s only failure to finish has come at Jerez.

“The biggest regret so far is probably the Jerez race. I struggled all weekend and I crashed during the race. It’s a shame because it was important to bring home points, even in difficult times,” he said.

“Nonetheless, the first part of the season has been very positive for me. I managed to make a big step forward compared to 2022,” added the Italian, who finished 14th in his rookie season in 2022.

Bezzecchi also revealed that Bagnaia and Martin are currently one step ahead of the others.

“This is a very demanding championship because there are a lot of fast riders and very competitive bikes. The level is very high and I think it will be even higher in the second half of the season because every rider will be faster all year round,” Berzzecchi added.

“So it will be very difficult to catch up with him. I think Pecco (Bagnaia) and Jorge Martin are one step ahead of the others. So we will try to improve and will be closer, as much as we can.”
