PBSI Discusses the Concept of Triple Badminton
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) will immediately discuss the concept of triple badminton matches within the federation. Triple badminton is a 3 on 3 match.
“Hopefully this 3 on 3 badminton tournament will become a sport that can be competed in officially. We will discuss it more intensely at PBSI. If in basketball and volleyball there is a triple concept (3 on 3), why not apply it in badminton?” said PP PBSI Secretary General Muhammad Fadil Imran during the 2024 BangBro Badminton Triple Cup which took place at the Candra Wijaya International Badminton Center, North Serpong, South Tangerang, Banten, Sunday (3/3/2024).
The 2024 BangBro Badminton Triple Cup is a tournament initiated by the BangBro Badminton Triple Community.
Bambang Soemantri Broedjonegoro is the general chairman of the community which was founded in 2013 but was only inaugurated on October 3 2022. BangBro taken from is Prof Bambang's nickname.
“This concept includes many elements of badminton fans, especially beginners, seniors, and former athletes who still have a high enthusiasm for playing but are hampered by age so it is no longer proportional,” said Fadil.
Bambang Soemantri, who is also the former Indonesian Minister of Research and Technology (2019-2021), explained that the BangBro Cup tournament was held to continue to introduce the concept of 3-on-3 badminton.
The reason is that the triple number in badminton can be played by all levels of society with a lighter intensity.
“The most important thing is how this triple community has increased the enthusiasm of all Indonesian people for badminton and we hope that in the future we will contribute to badminton development efforts,” he said.
The 2024 BangBro Badminton Triple Cup was attended by 12 teams with a total of 120 participants. Telkom 1 emerged as champion after defeating Kemendikbudristek with a score of 2-1. The third place was achieved by Telkom Access.
The winning team received prize money worth IDR 20 million, second place IDR 15 million, and third place IDR 10 million.
In this tournament, an exhibition match was also held between the red team versus the blue team. The Red Team is strengthened by Prof. Bambang, artist Arya Saloka, and 2000 Olympic gold medalist Candra Wijaya.
The Blue Team consists of comedian Faqih “Ngademin”, artist Bopak Castelo, and 2004 Olympic gold medalist Taufik Hidayat.
Another exhibition was held with the men's doubles concept which pitted Candra/Arya from the Red Team against Taufik/Fadil from the Blue Team.
