Pencak Silat Wins Gold, PB IPSI: Athletes’ Achievements Exceed the Target

Deputy general chairman (Waketum) of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (PB IPSI), Sugiono said that pencak silat athletes won at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

This was conveyed by Sugiono after the pencak silat sport presented 9 gold medals, Wednesday (10/5/2023). The gold achievement, said Sugiono, exceeded the target of PB IPSI chairman Prabowo Subianto.

“This exceeds the target set by PB IPSI chairman Prabowo Subianto, namely 5 gold,” Sugiono told reporters, Thursday (11/5/2023).

According to the former Aspri Prabowo, Indonesia winning the overall championship in the pencak silat sport at the 2023 SEA Games was the result of hard training, great sacrifice, high discipline from younger athletes and coaches and managers. He also acknowledged that competition in the pencak silat sport continues to increase.

“After the previous SEA Games only won one gold, this time Indonesia managed to regain the overall champion with 9 gold,” said Sugiono.

It is known, Indonesia became the overall champion in the sport of martial arts at the 2023 SEA Games Cambodia. In total, Indonesian athletes won 9 of the 23 gold contested.

Indonesian fighters who contributed gold were Iqbal Candra Pratama (class F men’s fight), Jeni Elvis Kause (C class women’s fight), Khoirudin Mustakim (A class men’s fight), Atifa Fismawati (D class women’s fight), Muhammad Zaki Zikrillah Prasong (class B men’s fight), Safira Dwi Meilani (class B women’s fight) and Tito Hendra Septa Kurnia (class E men’s fight). In total, pencak silat presented nine gold, six silver and one bronze for Indonesia.

Previously, Sugiono, who is also chairman of Kun Bokator Indonesia, managed to win three gold, five silver and thirteen bronze medals at the 2023 SEA Games.

The Chairman of the Gerindra Fraction of the MPR RI expressed his appreciation to all athletes who presented brilliant achievements for the nation.

“Bokator is one of the four new sports at the 2023 SEA Games, we are grateful that the athletes were able to win,” said Sugiono.
