Preview Fulham vs Manchester City: Time to Take Over!

Manchester City travels to Craven Cottage, Fulham headquarters in the 2022/2023 English league continuation, Sunday (30/4/2023). This match was the right moment for The Citizen to take the top of the standings from Arsenal.

After successfully defeating the Gunners in the middle of last week, the distance between City (73) and Arsenal (75) is now only two points. City also still have two games yet to play, which makes them even more comfortable in their pursuit of Mikel Arteta’s men.

Moreover, Arsenal did not play this weekend, and just played again against Chelsea in the middle of next week. That is, if City is able to reap the full three points when they travel to Fulham headquarters tonight, the defending champions will win over the top of the standings.

The match record between City and Fulham is also in favor of the visitors. Since 2012, City have beaten Fulham 13 times in a row. In their last game at City last November, Fulham came close to picking up their first point before being denied by a penalty from Erling Haaland.

The last name was indeed a craze in his debut season in the Premier League. Noted, the Norwegian striker has scored 33 goals in his first season in the blue Manchester uniform. Haaland has successfully surpassed Mohamed Salah’s goal record (32, 2017/2018) and is only one goal away from the Premier League records held by Andy Cole (1993/1994) and Alan Shearer (1994/1995) when the Premier League format was still 22 teams.

Entertaining City, Fulham has the potential to go down without Willian. The Brazilian picked up the injury in the pre-match warm-up against Aston Villa last Tuesday.

Harry Wilson had to drop a knock to feature but the Cottagers remain without the suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic and injured defender Layvin Kurzawa. Harry Wilson is also likely to be sidelined with a stomach problem.

Layvin Kurzawa is also still suffering from a knee injury. Coach Marco Silva is increasingly having to think about the absence of Aleksandar Mitrovic due to a red card sanction.

Meanwhile in the visitors’ camp, Guardiola has the same complete squad as when he beat Arsenal last midweek. Minus Nathan Ake who is still having problems with his thigh.

Fulham could again be the butt of the City. With a record 13 straight defeats, only Watford (15) and West Brom (14) have beaten City in more successive games so far. They themselves still need points, to maintain their position in the top 10 of the standings, as well as their best achievement since finishing ninth in the 2011/2012 season.

The Citizen is getting closer to his ninth Premier League title, and the away party against Fulham could be the best momentum to win the top of the standings. City, who have scored 32 goals (including against Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Arsenal) and have only conceded 5 goals in their last nine matches in all competitions, still feel too tough for Fulham.
