Shin Tae-yong was born on April 11, 1970 in Yeongdeok, South Korea. His football career began as a player at the Seongnam FC club from 1992 to 2004.

While playing at Seongnam FC, this club won three leagues in a row in 2001-2003. In his career, Shin Tae-yong won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award twice in 1995 and 2001.

In 2004, Shin Tae-yong decided to move to the Queensland Roar club and decided to retire in 2005. After retiring as a football player in 2005, he continued his football career as a coach.

Achievements as a Coach
Before managing the Indonesian National Team, Shin Tae-yong had made a number of brilliant achievements. One of the peak moments of his career was when he succeeded in bringing the South Korean national team to the 2015 Asian Cup Final for the first time in 27 years.
