Qualifying for the Top 16 of Japan Open 2023, Ahsan/Hendra Admits They Made Many Mistakes in Game 1

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Indonesian men’s doubles, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan, have indeed qualified for the round of 16 of the Japan Open 2023 after defeating the South Korean pair, Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang. But the seventh seed admitted he made a lot of mistakes in the first game.

Ahsan/Hendra qualified from the top 32 after defeating the 54th ranked pair in two straight games, 22-20, 21-15. The pair, nicknamed The Daddies, won after 34 minutes of fighting.

Ahsan admitted that in the first game they were still hesitant when playing. The number of mistakes they made also made the match have to go through the settings. “First of all, thank God we were able to win this match. In the first game, we were still playing with a lot of hesitation, making a lot of mistakes. We weren’t playing well,” said Ahsan as quoted by PBSI.

According to Ahsan, preparations for the Japan Open did not have any problems. One week ago, the main men’s doubles friends went to Korea. Ahsan/Hendra also got tough opponents during training because there was Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and juniors who had qualified qualities.

Meanwhile, Hendra Setiawan said their performance in the second game had improved. “We were able to read the field situation in the second game. We already knew what the conditions were. We took a lot of points from serve and then anticipated their returns,” said the 38-year-old player.

According to Hendra, in the last rally he was just trying to survive. When he was one point away from the end of the game, he admitted that it was hard to lift the ball.

“After competing in Canada, we only restore physical condition and hand power. There’s not much that can be added,” said the badminton player who together with Ahsan has won the All England twice.
