Creative director Harvey Smith revealed that Redfall had a PS5 version in development before Microsoft bought Bethesda and studio Arkane Austin.
The information was said by him during an interview with IGN Francewhere he spoke further about the impact the Microsoft buyout had on the game’s development, leading to the PS5 version being cancelled.
“We were bought by Microsoft and it was a change with a capital M. They came in and said, ‘No PlayStation 5, we’re focusing on Xbox, PC and Game Pass,’” Smith said.
Despite this, the director considers that the exclusivity was beneficial for the game, as it reduced the pressure on the development process when they had to focus only on one console. He also believes that Game Pass could make Redfall Arkane’s biggest release to date.
“Game Pass has a lot of players, it could become our biggest game thanks to 30 million (users), I don’t remember the exact number of subscribers.”
Redfall is out May 2 for Xbox Series and PC.
