Scores 2 Goals against Sociedad, Mbappe Sets New Record in the Champions League
Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Kylian Mbappé led Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to score two goals in a 2-1 win over Real Sociedad in the last 16 of the Champions League at the Anoeta Stadium, San Sebastian, Spain, Wednesday (6/2/2024) early morning WIB. Mbappe now has a new record in the Champions League.
That record means Mbappé became the second youngest player to reach 45 Champions League goals, from the group stage to the final. He scored 45 goals in the Champions League at the age of 25 years and 76 days.
His former teammate, Lionel Messi reached that figure at the age of 24 years 257 days. Mbappé has scored 46 goals in the Champions League.
Mbappe kept alive hopes of winning the title in his final season with the French side. Mbappé has also told PSG that he will not stay with the club beyond this season.
The French player is likely to join Real Madrid next season.
Despite spending big to win the Champions League for the first time, PSG have been knocked out of the last 16 five times in the last seven seasons, including the last two. They managed to reach the semifinals in 2021 and were runners-up in 2020.
Mbappé did not score in his last two appearances with PSG but scored eight goals in his last eight games with the club. He was substituted in the last two games but played until the final whistle in the early hours of this morning. PSG advanced 4-1 on aggregate over Real Sociedad.
